What are you worth? A confession...

What are you worth? A confession...

Here’s a confession…

I often equate my worth as my productivity or my financial earning. Even writing this makes me REALLY ANGRY!

I’ve done loads of work on this, it’s partly our capitalist society, how I was raised and my character. Changing the default setting is incredibly hard. We are wired to stay the same, it doesn’t matter what it is you’re trying to change, or how simple it is. It involves some level of reprogramming, which is deep intentional work. Magic, some might say…

My value as a mother, teacher, friend, neighbour etc is priceless, AND STILL I find it hard to feel my innate worth as much as I should.

I created my Spell For Self-Worth to help remind myself that my value is not a bank statement, an outcome or a judgement from someone else, it should be a default truth.

Dandelions don’t ask permission or seek validation, A dandelion does not need an invitation. It puts its tap root down deep, so even if its leaves or flowers are damaged it can regrow. They thrive in the least inviting places, smiling up their sunshine petals and shedding their fluffy seedheads wherever they can. And that’s what I want to do too. This Spell is about reaching beyond the limitations we find ourselves in, whether they’re real or perceived.

The circle of seeds around the dandelion is a reminder of the incredible potential we all carry when we create the right conditions for ourselves.

Is there anything more miraculous than a seed? And in particular a sunflower seed? This tiny innocuous grey lozenge can become a 10 foot monster in just a matter of months. Seeds are capsules of potential. Each promises the possibility of becoming a life giving, nourishing plant, a habitat for wee beasties. Each just needs the right conditions to prosper, and they can wait sometimes years and years until the right situation presents itself.

What potential do you have in you? Are you in the right conditions to flourish? What needs to change for you to realise your potential? Often our limitations are internal not external. An outdated belief, a lack of confidence. What's holding you back?

Beans are amazing. Not only can we eat the fresh green pods, but the dried beans inside can feed us all year round. They also have amazing nitrogen-fixing nodules on their roots, enriching the soil rather than depleting it.

See how a seed first focuses on developing it’s roots. It has a secure base and sturdy subterranean support structure before the leaves emerge.

What is your support network like? How deep do your roots go? Once you get them in order, you can flourish too.

What you see above ground is always a reflection of what is underground. Even this tiny dandelion seedling has a wide network of fine roots supporting it, and in a short time, those roots will stretch deep and hold the plant firm.

This is perhaps the most important element of my Spell For Self-Worth. The support system you create for yourself and the strength of your beliefs and values which will hold you up when adversity comes.

You are enough. Just because you’re here. You don’t need to DO or BE anything to be worthy. You just are.

If you have an overactive inner-critic, if you have trouble receiving- be that complements, rest or love, if you feel you need to be busy all the time, this Spell is for you.

Use it check-in with everyday. As validation of your worth.

Get quiet, take your attention inward and feel how precious and rich your one glorious human life is. Notice any resistance you experience and what the unhelpful messages you may have internalised are. Let the roots of your own innate value, erode those barriers that stop you from feeling your true worth. And then see just how you prosper and blossom.
