Imagine setting off from home one day. Unbeknown to you, you will never return. You may never see your family again. Everything will be different from this point onwards. You will have to adapt. You will feel the ache of no final hugs or loving goodbyes; of all you have left behind.

This has been reality for millions of people. It was the story of my Great-Grandmother, my Grandmother and my Mother, all of whom had to flee their country with little notice and few belongings.

What would you say to your family that hasn’t been said? What actions would you take to lessen the sorrow of this situation? Maybe you should say those words and take those actions today. Maybe this thought experiment will change the way you view your home. 

Maybe you need a Spell, or lucky charm to reunite you. 

This painting is a Spell For Safe-Return.  I think of the millions of people involved in war who set out not knowing if they would return, and wonder if the loved ones they left behind did their own Spell For Safe-Return. Mine includes a spectacular moth Clifden Nonpareil which has returned from the brink of extinction. The scallop shell, symbol of the pilgrim and a rose quartz pebble. We know things can’t stay the same, change is the only guarantee, but returning safely gives us such comfort and strength.
